Pet Peeve #1: The smiley face made with a parenthesis and a colon

I can never bring myself to do it. make a smiley face with punctuation marks. It gives me a weird feeling when it's there in a letter someone wrote me or a text message. I don't know why I get a weird feeling, but I would prefer not to have others feel that feeling. Sometimes I think, "a smiley face would be cute at the end of this sentence!" But I never can bring myself to do it.
